An attempt to unionize Tim Hortons workers in Canora is underway and the parties involved are dealing with an unfair labour practice complaint.

The workers at the coffee and doughnut shop, located on Main Street, are employed by Amenity Health Care.

An organizer of the union involved, Workers United Canada Council, said 14 workers were employed at the Canora outlet when the application to unionize was filed in June 2017.

Amenity has previously alleged that the union has engaged in unfair labour practices during the unionization drive, but Workers United denied the allegation, stating that “there has been no coercion or intimidation” and that “workers initially contacted Workers United to begin the process.”

Amenity representatives were unavailable for comment at the time of publication.

A Saskatchewan Labour Relations Board hearing regarding the application for union certification is scheduled for January 30-31 in Saskatoon.
