2017

The Canora celebration of Canada’s 150th birthday was the highlight of the summer and set the stage for a change of venue to our Winter Lights Festival.

Canora town council’s vision of a low cost, family-friendly occasion that focused on small town living came alive at both events.

Council adopted a code of conduct and code of ethics that has now been required under the direction of the provincial government. These provide direction and accountability in how we conduct ourselves with transparency, conflict of interest and interaction with others not only at the council table but with staff and the very citizens who we represent.

The sidewalk project continued with the removal on some blocks. This resulted in positive feedback, encouraging us to continue.

The water main replacement project was completed.

Canora’s Main Street revitalization project resulted in enthusiasm from the businesses to participate in facelifts to their storefronts. The community rallied around this project by paying it forward through volunteer labour or donated supplies, which is just another example of our strong community spirit.

2018

Council has started the preliminary 2018 budget discussions and it is progressing on time.

Paving is slated to be a big point of emphasis this year and will address all major repairs. Paving is on a three-year project rotation which enables for better budget preparation.

Council will continue its plan towards enhancing the appearance of our community and showcasing small town living.

We ask everyone to look around as if you are seeing Canora for the first time. We often take for granted our clean winter streets and beautiful trees in the summer as well as our many low-cost recreational events.

Council will be focused on encouraging both residents and business owners to continue to strive towards a friendly, tidy and inviting first impression for visitors to Canora.
