Parkland Association of Disc Golf makes big plans for 2017 Champions' Champion Tournament

The Parkland Association of Disc Golf (PADG) is planning its Champions’ Champion Tournament for 2017, which members hope will be bigger than ever. “The event was a great success for our first year,” said Trevor Lyons, PADG tournament chair.

The Parkland Association of Disc Golf (PADG) is planning its Champions’ Champion Tournament for 2017, which members hope will be bigger than ever.

“The event was a great success for our first year,” said Trevor Lyons, PADG tournament chair.

Plans for the 2017 Champions’ Champion tournament are well underway with the event recently securing a major sponsor, said a release from PADG.

“We wanted to grow the event for 2017, and we have just taken on a major sponsor partner to help that happen,” said Calvin Daniels, PADG chair. “We are excited to announce in 2017 it will be the Farrell Agencies Champions’ Champion Tournament.

“Having the support of Farrell Agencies will give the event a higher profile and allow us to sweeten the pot in terms of prizes, especially for the final card.”

Jason Farrell, president at Farrell Agencies, said that once he learned more about disc golf and PADG, the sponsorship was too good a fit not to move forward with.

“One afternoon Calvin stopped in and we talked about the sport and its growth locally through the PADG. It has seen great growth, and the region it covers is similar to our core service area,” Farrell said.

“Farrell Agencies is always willing to get involved with good projects that fit, and disc golf is a family-friendly sport that is all about getting outdoors and being active so it was a definite positive fit.”

The Champions' Champion Tournament brings together top finishers from recognized PADG events, which includes the Sandy Beach Disc Golf Tournament, to compete in an all-star tournament. Competitors must be PADG members and have finished first or second at one of the tournaments.

“This year we had eight tournaments, and 16 spots for the event,” said Lyons. “We fully expect we will see more of the 18 current courses host tournaments so the field for the inaugural Farrell Agencies event could be considerably larger.”

Jack Talsma of Fort Qu’Appelle won the Yorkton event for 2016 and will receive a Champions’ Champion jacket.

“Next year the jacket will of course be a bit different with Farrell Agencies on board,” said Lyons, adding the sponsorship will allow for more prizes and better promotion of the event.

Details of the 2017 tournament, including which course will host, will be released early next year. Those who wish to find more information may visit the PADG Facebook page.
