Rama man wins million-dollar lottery prize

A Rama resident has won $1 million in the Lotto 6/49 lottery.

A Rama resident has won $1 million in the Lotto 6/49 lottery.

Mike Shewchuk got the surprise of a lifetime when he checked his LOTTO 6/49 ticket at the store and discovered he had won $1 million on the February 4 draw, said a release from SaskLotteries.

“I went to the store to check my tickets and see if there was a winner in Saskatchewan,” Shewchuk said. “The terminal froze when the retailer scanned my ticket; she looked at me and said, ‘I’ve never seen this before!’

“The clerk was excited, but I didn’t know what to do,” he said. “The retailer told me I was a winner, and I thought, ‘I never win, but now I have!’”

Shewchuk said he is going to use his winnings to pay some bills and possibly take a trip.

“I’ve always wanted to take a train to see the mountains,” he said.

The happy Rama resident won his million-dollar prize on the February 4 Guaranteed Prize Draw, the release said. His winning number was 35704321-01. He also won $10 on the same ticket by matching three of the six main numbers on another draw.

Shewchuk purchased his winning LOTTO 6/49 ticket at the Rama Co-op Gas Bar.

There’s still one more million-dollar prize waiting to be claimed in Saskatchewan, it said. Saskatchewan Lotteries is still waiting to hear from the winner of the $1 million guaranteed prize from the February 1 LOTTO 6/49 draw. The prize was won by a ticket sold somewhere in the province, but not in Saskatoon or Regina. The owner or owners of that ticket have one year from the draw date to claim their prizes.

The winning Guaranteed Prize Draw selection on February 1 was 35435558-01.
