Fifteen Canora Squirt players took on seven Norquay North Stars in Canora on February 12.

The Squirt players were super excited for this “real game,” said Genevieve Shukin, manager of the Canora team.

The Canora Squirts were coached by Colin and Leona Kitchen, Meridee Kopelchuk and Aimee Ruf, while the Norquay North Stars were coached by Nicole Korpusik and Bowdrie Northrop.

Canora’s Red & White Squirts have cross ice practices on Mondays and Tuesdays and since the beginning of the year have been having inter-squad games on Fridays, Shukin said.

For most of the players it is either their first or second year of hockey and they range in age from three to five years old, she said, commending all the family and friends who come out to cheer for both teams.

Two Canora players put on Norquay Jerseys to help even out the numbers for the game, she said. Goals were scored by Mason Reine and Ashton Strelioff for Canora and by Ty Northrop, Rowyn Johnson and Owen Van Brugge (Canora Squirt) for Norquay.
