Canora Peewee Cobras work to improve after defeat by Yorkton Terriers

Canora Peewee Cobras of mostly first-year players battle Yorkton Terriers

            The first Canora Minor Hockey League game for the Canora Peewee Cobras ended in a loss of 3-19.

            The Canora Peewee Cobras team played against the Yorkton Premier Cabinets Terriers on November 20. Canora goals were scored by Jake Statchuk (two) and Nate Wolos, an atom player. Two assists were made by atom player Taye Shukin and one was by Logan Wolkowski.

            “Although we lost by a lot, the team members played really hard and I was very proud of them,” said Dwayne Wolkowski, coach for the Canora Peewee Cobras, adding that most of the team consists of first-year players and there are only two second-year players. The small team also needs to include players from the atom teams.

            Players for the Canora Peewee Cobras team include Codee Kopelchuk, Jaxson Lindgren, Rylen Lukey, Logan Lewchuk, Jake Statchuk, Randi Foster, Logan Wolkowski, Mathew Dmitruik, Hayden Strelioff and Cole Marcinkoski. The team’s atom players are Taye Shukin, Nate Wolos, Hunter Lamb, Carson Ebert, Porter Wolkowski and Keegan Dyck.

            “The team played well and I hope to see great improvement as the season goes on,” said Dwayne Wolkowski.

            The Canora Peewee Cobras were to take part in two games on November 26 and November 27 at the Canora Civic Centre. They will play against the Preeceville Pats on November 26 and against the Churchbridge Imperials on November 27. Game schedules, stats and standings may be found on the Canora Minor Hockey website.
