The Canora Skating Club presented its annual carnival with the theme A Night at the Movies on March 18 at the Canora Civic Centre.

Organizers chose music from a number of favourite movies ranging from Top Gun to Alice in Wonderland. Heather Chabun, club secretary, said the theme was broad enough to give organizers a variety of possibilities in songs and costumes.

“The girls who skated to Let it Go were quite excited that they got to wear their princess costumes.”

The performances at the carnival included: Abigail Boulanger, Courtlyn Heshka, Drew Kitchen, Mya Dutchak and Talia Collingridge to the song A Whole New World from the movie Aladdin; Courtney Sheptak, Haydyn Parmley, Elley Tomcala and Mya Wolos to Can’t Stop the Feeling from Trolls; Katherine Hauber, Makayla Heshka and Irena Yannoulis to Hey Alice from Alice in Wonderland; Madison Dutchak, Heidi Parmley, Rhianna Stefanyshyn, Marah Collingridge, Mikayla Tratch and Isabelle Chabun to Hey Mickey from Bring It On; Parker Bryant, Hunter Nehaj, Ryan Shahrestani and Ethan Chabunto Men in Black from the movie of the same name;        Isabelle Kondratoff, Zoe Lisoway, Shyleena Marsden, Jana Afshari, Kaley Swetleshnoff, Maya Knight and Sage Nehaj to Let It Go from Frozen; and Reid Kitchen, Erika Sweeney, Jazmine Chasse and Samuel Collingridge skated to Danger Zone from the movie Top Gun

A total of three guest skaters took part in the program.

Calla Almas of Melville, 10, is a Star 5 level skater.

Alyssa Lobdell, also of Melville, 13, is a pre-novice skater.

The third guest skater was Nicki Nagy, 18, of Yorkton, is a member of the Skate Canada Saskatchewan High Performance Elite Team.

Chabun said there was a good turnout of approximately 150 people to see the carnival.

It was the final event of the season for the Canora Skating Club, which runs from November to April.

Club enrollment was approximately 35-40 for this season, and Chabun is hoping to see that number increase for 2018-19.
