At its regular meeting on August 6 Canora Town Council adopted an amended nuisance bylaw.
Michael Mykytyshyn, chief administrative officer, said it is a significant change from the previous policy.
“The vast majority of property owners have always taken it upon themselves to cut the grass on the boulevards and in the back lanes adjoining their properties,” said Mykytyshyn. “However, over the last few summers, an increasing number of residents have discontinued this practice which is resulting in many overgrown and unsightly areas throughout town.”
Mykytyshyn said the problem grew to the point where council felt it was necessary to amend the nuisance bylaw.
“The amendment legally makes this the responsibility of the property owner. Moving forward, residents who do not cut the grass on their boulevards or adjoining lanes will be subject to enforcement under the nuisance bylaw. Unfortunately, this seems to be a trend everywhere and many other municipalities have already implemented this language into their nuisance bylaws,” Mykytyshyn concluded.
