Buchanan Fish Derby attracts entries from Buchanan and Canora

The first annual Buchanan Wildlife Fish Derby was held at the north end of Good Spirit Lake on March 16. There were a total of 116 entries, said Kent Zuravloff, Buchanan Wildlife treasurer.

Those in attendance reported near ideal fish derby weather, with temperatures just below freezing.

During the event there were 29 northern pike and three walleye caught, said Zuravloff.

Laurie Kihn of Buchanan caught the largest walleye and won the $1,000 first prize donated by Buchanan Wildlife. Les Heshka, also of Buchanan, took second place for Walleye.

In northern pike, Sam Teslia of Buchanan took first place and the $500 that went with it, donated by Buchanan Wildlife. Lorne Brezinski of Buchanan caught the second-place northern pike and the $250 prize donated by Shewchuk Insurance of Buchanan. Lawrence Rokosh of Canora took third, followed by Dale Lozinski, also of Canora in fourth place.

Walter Ostoforoff of Canora won $485 in the 50/50 draw.
