Buchanan Open Bonspiel contested by rinks from across region

The Buchanan Open Bonspiel, held from February 25 to 29, was well attended with 14 rinks entered, according to Les Carlson, one of the organizers. “Neighbours from all around made it a success,” said Carlson.

The winners of the A event was the Dale Zubko rink from Preeceville skipped by Zubko, with Nick Bodnar at third, Lou Roste at second, and Phil Murrin in the lead position.

The Lenard Bazarski rink from Canora/Buchanan placed second in the A event. Team members were: Bazarski, skip; Jake Teslia, third; Glenda Dutchak, second and Lionel Dutchak, lead.

Finishing first in the B event was the Buchanan/Canora rink skipped by Kent Zuravloff and including Kevin Fediuk at third, Darcy Ripa at second and Dan Wasyliw, lead.

The Zuravloff foursome defeated the Vern Schick rink in the B final. Curling with Schick of Canora, were: Darryl Stevenson of Burgis Beach and Kevin and Barb Coleridge of Good Spirit Acres.

The rink skipped by Sheldon Luciw of Preeceville finished first in the C event, including team members James Bodnar (third), Rodney Serhan (second) and Cassidy Paterson (lead).

In the C final, the Luciw rink defeated the Patti Shermet rink from Buchanan, skipped by Earl Pottle of Endeavour.

Other rinks in the bonspiel were entered by: Don Probe, Bob Kolodziejski, Zeno Gulka, Terry Wilson, and Darcy Zielinski of Canora; Eugene Prychak of Rama, Greg Zuk of Preeceville and Charlene Johnson from Yorkton.
