The Canora air cadets and the Canora and District Fire Department joined forces and conducted a food drive, going door-to-door in Canora on September 22.

Capt. Darren Paul said the idea came up during a regular cadets sponsorship committee meeting.

“We approached the fire department to ask if they would partner with us to bring visibility to the food bank's needs and to create a partnership between the cadets and the fire department,” said Paul.

The cadets split up for the day and the fire fighters joined them going door to door. Paul said

the drive went extremely well with Canora residents being very generous and receptive to those in need.

He said in addition to helping out the food bank, the food drive was an important step in the growth of the cadets.

“Cadets learn citizenship and comradeship during events such as this, as well as how to guide and mentor younger cadets,” Paul said. “Working together creates an open and positive working relationship at all levels of the program.”

Canora air cadets who took part in the food drive were: F/Sgt. Joanne Babb, AC Tyrell Toto, F/Cpl. Tessa Spokes, AC Dawson Jennings, Sgt. Gracie Pau and AC Gregory Severight.

Canora and District Fire Department members involved in the food drive were: Mike Skibinsky, Rick Gibson, Eric Sweeny, Sherise Fountain, Jess Harper and Neil Reine.
