On April 23, the Canora building on Main Street which housed the RM of Good Lake office was demolished.

Some history of the building was documented in The Rural Municipality of Good Lake No. 274 A History:

“In 1960, the municipality purchased the Saskatchewan Government Telephones building at 401 Main Street in Canora for $6,500 and the RM office has been situated in that building ever since.

“The RM office was renovated in 1966 under the Federal Provincial Winter Works Program when the plaster on the ceiling was covered, new doors were installed, painting was done and curtains were hung on the windows.

“Several repairs and updates have been done in the office in the ensuing years, with new roofing, flooring and an air conditioner installed, as examples.

“Updates to the RM office during the 1990’s included replacement of the windows and the purchase of window blinds and a vacuum cleaner. A new photocopier and fax machine were purchased in 1991.

“The office of the RM of Good Lake was made Internet compatible in 1998, with assistance from the ComminiLink Program. An additional telephone line was added to the office in order that the Internet usage would not interfere with the telephone line, and additional memory and a modem were purchased for the computer. A used Konica 2020 copier was purchased from Dowies Stationery in 2001 at a cost of $1,875 plus tax, and a maintenance agreement was signed for the machine at a cost of 1.6 cents per copy. In 2002 a new 1.7 Ghz computer, complete with backup tape and monitor, was purchased for the RM office, for a price of $1,950, including a hard drive backup and cartridges. Computers were coming down in price and computing capacity was greatly expanded for lower costs.

“In 2003, a new tin roof was installed in the office building and new flooring was put in. New office chairs were also purchased that year.”

Now that the demolition has been completed, the RM of Good Lake plans to put up a new office building at the same site as the previous building.
