Canora Homecraft 4-H Club begins Coats for Kids campaign

The Canora Homecraft 4-H Club has started a “Coats for Kids” campaign to help children in Canora and the surrounding area stay warm through the upcoming winter.

The Canora Homecraft 4-H Club has started a “Coats for Kids” campaign to help children in Canora and the surrounding area stay warm through the upcoming winter.

“We all know Saskatchewan winters can be cold,” said Maureen Babb, Canora Homecraft 4-H Club sewing leader. “In keeping with the 4-H motto, we are putting our “hands to larger service” and giving back to our community.”

Babb said this is the time of year when many families go through the closets and see which clothes still fit the children and which don’t from last year’s winter gear.

“Why not give those clothing items that don’t fit a new home. We will gladly take them off your hands,” said Babb.

All clothing donations will be carefully examined, cleaned and necessary repairs will be made by the club’s sewing group, said Babb. She will then have the items available for pickup, free of charge, at the Canora Sewing Shop during regular business hours.

The Coats for Kids campaign is being directly supported by the Canora Bargain Shop, which will be offering a discount on all purchases of over $30 to those who make donations to the campaign throughout the month of November. Gratitude Cards for the discount will be available at all drop-off locations.

The used winter clothing donations are being accepted at the Canora Sewing Shop, the Canora Town Office and the Canora Public Library.

Babb said donations have already been received of a variety of sizes of: coats, ski pants, mittens, toques and scarves.

“No child should feel the cold during this or any winter. Our club wants to help out and make our long winters bearable,” she concluded.
