The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 95 calls from December 16, 2020 to January 7, 2021, some of which included: five traffic accidents, 14 traffic offences, one impaired driver, 22 other provincial statutes, two municipal bylaws, one other federal statute, seven other criminal code incidents, one drug enforcement, two sexual offences, four uttering threats, four assaults, one theft under $5,000, one possession of stolen property, six mischiefs, three frauds, one two break and enters, and 19 other occurrences.

Large gathering

On December 19, Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a complaint of a large gathering in a family home in the RM of Sliding Hills that was in violation of the Public Health Order. RCMP made patrols and went to the residence and determined there was no violation of the Public Health Order.

Icy collision

Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to a motor vehicle collision on Highway No. 9 near Sturgis on December 19. The single vehicle involved had slid into the ditch and rolled down an embankment due to icy road conditions. Alcohol was not a factor. The driver of the vehicle was not injured.

Break and enter

On December 21, Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to a break and enter to storage units at the Canora Storage Company. Yorkton Fingerprint Identification Section assisted with the investigation which remains ongoing. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to please contact the Canora RCMP.

Loud music

Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a bylaw complaint on December 21 regarding Second Avenue East in Canora. The caller reported loud music coming from the house after 10 p.m. RCMP attended and could hear the music. RCMP spoke with the resident who turned the music off, no tickets were laid.

Snowmobile recovered

On December 24, Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a complaint of a stolen snowmobile in Canora. The suspects towed the snowmobile that was parked in the front yard of the residence. Video footage of the theft was caught. RCMP detachments from Yorkton and Radville assisted with this investigation which lead to the suspects being identified and charged for the theft and the snowmobile was recovered.

Welder stolen

Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to a break and enter on Christmas Day to a garage in Gorlitz. RCMP attended and took photographs of the damages. A Lincoln MIG welder had been stolen. Anyone with any information regarding this theft is asked to please contact the Canora RCMP.

Mikado disturbance

Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded on December 30 to a complaint of an intoxicated belligerent person in Mikado. RCMP attended, nothing criminal was determined to have occurred and the suspect was provided with a ride to a friend’s residence to sober up.

Domestic incident

On December 30, Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to a domestic dispute on Mary Street in Canora. An intoxicated adult was arrested and charged with assault, mischief and breaching court ordered conditions. The suspect was remanded for court in Yorkton and these charges are now before the court.

Deer vs vehicle

Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a complaint of a motor vehicle collision on December 30, 1 km west of Sturgis. A pack of four deer ran out onto the road and the vehicle collided with one of the deer. The driver lost control and slid into the ditch. The vehicle had to be towed as a result of damages from the impact. Alcohol was not a factor and the driver was not injured.

Drugs seized

On December 31, Canora/Sturgis RCMP stopped a vehicle travelling on Highway No. 9 north of Canora. As a result of the traffic stop, methamphetamine and needles were located in the vehicle. The adult driver was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine contrary to Section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. The charges have yet to be proven in court.

Canora disturbance

Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to a disturbance at a residence on Third Avenue East in Canora on New Year’s Day. The suspect was intoxicated and causing problems inside the residence. The suspect fled prior to RCMP arrival. It was later learned that a family member picked up the suspect and brought them to another location for the night to sober up.
