Canora/Sturgis RCMP Detachment activity report for February 13 to February 20

The Canora/ Sturgis RCMP responded to 38 calls for service this week, some of which included one traffic collision, two impaired driving offences.

The Canora/ Sturgis RCMP responded to 38 calls for service this week, some of which included one traffic collision, two impaired driving offences. 16 traffic offences, two break and enters, one fraud, one theft, one assault, one uttering threats and one mischief.

On February 13 Cst. Trevor Cahill and Cpl. Holmstrom completed a methamphetamine drug awareness talk/presentation to Grades 9 to 12 students at Canora Composite School. The presentation gave the students tips and ideas regarding how to say “no” when pressured into drug use. The presentation also was informative on the effects meth is taking on our community and area. Plans are in progress to try and bring the presentation to Preeceville and Sturgis schools in the near future.

In July of 2019 a quad belonging to Oliver Anaka, along with some tools and property, were stolen from his parents’ residence near Stenen. The quad and some of the property was miraculously returned to the residence weeks later with no one being held accountable or charged for the stolen property. The Canora/ Sturgis RCMP recently received a tip and evidence and were able to move this investigation forward. The Canora/ Sturgis RCMP were able to lay charges on the people allegedly responsible for the crime. This case will be in Canora Court on April 4.

On February 17 the Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to a break and enter in Preeceville. Between February 12 and February 17, a shop at the corner of Main Street and Fourth Avenue Northeast in Preeceville was broken into and had numerous items stolen, including three generators, an air compressor, a Mercury trolling motor, and various tools.  If you have any information about this break and enter please contact the Canora/Sturgis RCMP.
