Gateway Co-op held Fuel Good Day on September 17 at its locations in Canora, Buchanan, Preeceville and Sturgis.

Over $4,600 was raised to support local community groups, stated Brad Chambers, Gateway Co-op General Manager.

During the day, 10 cents per litre of full service fuel pumped at the Canora C-store, Buchanan store and Preeceville Home Centre was donated to the cause.

“Additional funds were raised from barbecues held in Canora by the Canora and District Benevolent Association, in Buchanan by the Buchanan Community Centre, in Preeceville by the Preeceville Fire Department and in Sturgis by the Sturgis Station House Museum,” said Chambers.

The funds raised included nearly $2,000 for fuel/slushie/coffee donations and over $2,600 for the barbecues.

The funds were shared equally between: Canora and District Benevolent Fund, the Preeceville Fire Department and the Sturgis and District Rural Fire Co-operative.

The Canora and District Benevolent Fund provides financial assistance to those having trouble meeting medical expenses, according to information provided by the group.

Chambers acknowledged all the groups involved for their hard work to help make Fuel Good Day a success and members for their continued support and for helping build local communities.

“As a Co-op, working with and supporting local groups that fit our values is a cornerstone of the Co-op movement. We look forward to opportunities to work with our local service groups to ensure we continue to grow together,” Chambers concluded.
