Items of interest to Rama area residents

Residents of the Canora Gateway Lodge were entertained by singing and guitar playing by Eugene Tretiak of Rama and Ross Baldwin of Yorkton. They also provided the entertainment on September 9 at the Invermay Health Centre and Gateway Lodge.

            Tracey Bodnarchuk, along with his son Kyle, Ryan Langan of Flin Flon and Greg Petryk of Cranberry Portage, Man. went geese and duck hunting in the Rama area.

            Bodnarchuk is the brother of Barry of Rama. Hunters are reminded to always respect the landowners, obtain permission prior to hunting on private land even if the land is not posted, and to thank landowners for the privilege of hunting on the land.

            Members of the Performing Arts and Leisure Society (PALS) enjoyed a barbecue supper on September 9. Performing at the event were Sheldon Landstad, Nancy Landstad-Genoway, Stojan Christow, Mary Kuras and Elsie Jensen. The 50/50 winner was Jerry Wonziak, while Kashton Swiderski was the winner of a free coffee.

            The get-together on September 16 had members and guests enjoy a chilli supper followed by entertainment. The 50/50 winner was Violet Wilcocks, and a free coffee was won by Ross Harrison.

            On September 13, the first-place winners of the Tuesday night Kaiser games at the Golden Jets Centre were Adolph Wolkowski of Rama and George Bulan of Buchanan. In second place were Joe Kowalyshen of Rama and Florence Bilan of Buchanan.

            A beautiful sunny day for the CTV Hometown Tour in Rama saw a big turnout on September 14.

            The Rama Co-op put on a barbecue at the Co-op Hardware Store. Crazy Crepes made some great crepes for all to taste.

            CTV staff members Heather Anderson, Tonaya Marr and Wayne Mantyka were present for the tour. Dave Kory Performance Horses entertained for the elementary and high school students of Invermay School. Aaron and Sam Halifax made balloon animals for the young and old.

            Winners of the door prizes donated by the Rama Co-op were Linda Gray, Dave Kory, Eugene Tretiak, Evan Matsalla, Cheryl Knight, Vicky Stefanyshyn, Margaret Pinkelton, Lisa Pasloski, Olga Pozniak, and Larry Brodziak.

            The 50/50 prize is still unclaimed. Ticketholders can see the winning ticket number posted on the board by the village office, or may contact Donna Pasloski.

            All proceeds from the CTV Hometown Tour will go to the improvement of the village park and playground.

            Mary Kowalyshen presented the CTV news team with a decorated cake.

            The CTV Hometown Tour of Rama is slated to air on CTV News Regina on September 29.

            Weather put a damper on harvest the week of September 4 to 10, but the majority of farmers are back in the fields. There was a frost advisory for the area on September 13.

            Cyndy Zelinski, Lorne Zelinski and Joanne and Gary Danylyshen of Saskatoon with their son Matthew, and Eve and Eugene Keyowski of Canora gathered for a family get-together on the farm over the September 17 and 18 weekend.

            While harvest was on for most, a Saturday Night Dance Party on September 17 helped farmers celebrate with local residents. At the Golden Jets Centre, tortillas were on the menu. “Viva Mexico bienvenidos!”

            September 18 bingo winners missed a thrilling Saskatchewan Roughriders win against the Edmonton Eskimos, but continued to play on during a rainy and windy thunderstorm that rolled through the area. Adolph Wolkowski was the bingo caller and Vicky Wolkowski served lunch for all players. Winners were Elaine Mitchell (three), Mary Mikush (three), Jill Kowalyshen, Eldean Shewchuk, Janet Yasinski (two), Lisa Pasloski, Helen Fullowka and Georgina Rothlander. Janet Yasinski was the winner of the Lotto Ball Game.

            Jordan Nowakowski was home to visit his parents Ken and Wendy, as well as other family in the Rama area. Nowakowski played men’s volleyball with the jersey number 10 with the University of Saskatchewan Huskies. He has had many highlights in his volleyball career including being named the Huskies’ Athlete of the Week for January 18. This young man recently signed a contract to play professional volleyball in Italy. Rama residents wish Nowakowski continued success and remind him to keep his dreams alive.
