Regina business makes donation to local PWOS Mission 2019 core rider

Remco Memorials, based in Regina, has made a donation of $3,000 to support Shawna Leson of Canora, a core rider for Prairie Women on Snowmobiles (PWOS) Mission 2019.

Remco Memorials, based in Regina, has made a donation of $3,000 to support Shawna Leson of Canora, a core rider for Prairie Women on Snowmobiles (PWOS) Mission 2019.

PWOS is a non-profit organization whose annual missions are provincial awareness events that are designed to focus attention on breast cancer and the recreation of snowmobiling as well as raise the much-needed funds for breast cancer research.

“Over the past 18 years we have raised almost $2.5 million for the cause,” said Leson.

Lois Schlosser, president of Remco, was in Canora on January 11 to make the presentation to Leson.

“We are very proud to sponsor Shawna. I was familiar with PWOS and I am so proud of their work and enjoyment raising money for breast cancer awareness, research and detection equipment,” said Schlosser.

“Each core rider for PWOS is required to raise a minimum of $3,000 in donations, pledges and sponsorships and that number felt like the right amount to donate for this important mission.”

Schlosser said she has known Leson for several years, and heard about her participation in PWOS while they were golfing together in Canora in August at an event co-sponsored by Remco and Leson’s Funeral Home.

“Beyond our great business relationship, I grew up in nearby Preeceville, so we have the added connection with mutual relationships,” she explained.

Leson said she deeply appreciates the support from Remco.

“At first, I was speechless and in tears. Everyone involved at Remco cares so much about people and especially the families they serve. They are very community minded. Lois indicated, just as I have several times, cancer leaves no family untouched. Everyone has been impacted by it in some way,” she said.

“It is a great honour to work with them through our business and their incredible generosity shows how much they really do care. I am so very proud of them and honoured they would support me in this way. They even put my ribbon on the Remco equipment vehicle.”

Leson said with Mission 2019 coming up quickly, she is filled with mixed emotions.

“I am excited as it feels like we’ve been planning this for a long time, nervous as I haven’t had the opportunity to ride very much yet this year and very proud of the donations collected by our team even before the mission begins,” she said. “But mostly, I am absolutely humbled by the generosity of all those who have supported me in this mission.”

Leson said Mission 2019 is scheduled to run from February 3 to 8, and the preliminary route has been set:

•           Feb 3 Meadow Lake, St. Walburg, Turtleford, Meota and North Battleford

•           Feb 4 Cut Knife, Unity, Kerrobert and Kindersley

•           Feb 5 Eatonia, Leader, Fox Valley and Maple Creek

•           Feb 6 Gull Lake, Swift Current, Kyle and Rosetown

•           Feb 7 Delisle, Biggar, Asquith and Martensville

•           Feb 8 Hague, Duck Lake, MacDowall and finale in Prince Albert.

Leson indicated that donations in support of Mission 2019 can still be made in three ways: directly to one of the ten core riders, to the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency, or Google Prairie Women on Snowmobiles 2019- Canadian Cancer Society and choose a core rider to support with a donation.
