A spill which occurred just outside the Gateway Co-op C-Store in Canora on April 16 required a significant cleanup, but thankfully caused no injuries.

“A semi driver was moving through our site when he impacted the RV water fill station causing damage to his vehicle and the fill station,” said Brad Chambers, Gateway Co-op general manager. “Fluids from his vehicle leaked out, but the semi trailer was not loaded with product.”

Chambers said the incident occurred at about 5 a.m. and the cause was not known at the time.

The fill station and the tractor unit of the semi sustained significant damage, but Chambers said the Co-op was pleased that no injuries were reported.

He said Gateway Co-op has spill containment procedures that were followed during the cleanup. The Canora Fire Department and spill contractors have cleaned the site and removed spilled product.

“I would like to commend all the response teams involved today, they did a fantastic job of containing the scene,” concluded Chambers.
