July 7, 1971 -The Helper, a Ukrainian language play presented in Saskatoon by the Canora branch of the Canadian Ukrainian Youth Association (CYMK), won the Dominion CYMK drama competition during the national convocation of the association, beating out entries from Vancouver and Windsor. Mary Ann Ortynsky won the best actress award while Orest Wintonyk was named best actor.
August 4, 1971 – Approximately 35 of the 50 cars which started out in the Saskatchewan Homecoming ’71 antique car tour stopped in Canora. Mayor Walter Mysak, Canora Homecoming chairman John Fullawka and Steve Kobelka, president of the Canora Antique Car Club, were presented with scrolls by the tour co-ordinator.
September 1, 1971- Ken Wyonzek of 136 Eighth Ave. West in Canora helped looked after a pet hawk for the summer. The hawk had made its home at the Wyonzek residence since May. It was hoped the bird would fly south in the fall and perhaps return in the spring. Wyonzek said it was a red-tailed hawk.
September 22, 1971 – Canora, with a score of 98.5, topped the 14 towns in the Yorkton-Melville Health Region’s sanitary environment survey this year. Accepting the certificate for the town were Mayor Walter Mysak and Councillor Alex Billy.
October 6, 1971 – Mayor Walter Mysak cut the ribbon at the official opening of the new Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce building in Canora. Other members of the official party were Adolph Matsalla, MLA for Canora, and Ron Cowley, branch manager. More than 800 persons signed the register.
December 22, 1971 – A new hitch easily operated by one person without any need for a helper when connecting an implement to a tractor or a trailer to a car was being manufactured by Western Industries of Canora, said Zenon Cherewick, secretary and inventor of the hitch.
