Town Council discusses community policing, activities for youth and seniors

Sgt. Derek Friesen of Canora RCMP met with council to discuss community policing.                  

Mathew Tourand met with council to discuss his application for a home occupation at 124 Sixth Avenue East. Council approved the discretionary use of a recording studio as a home occupation at 124 Sixth Avenue East (Lot 13, Block 18, Plan Z1077).

Claudette Hanson met with council to discuss her proposals for improving the community and developing activities for youth and seniors.

Council provided Lot 4 on Billy Cove to Michelle Bailey’s  condominium development project at no cost.

Council approved the request of Tracey Bletsky to extend the 2019 Town of Canora campground season until October 31.

Council agreed that application be made to the Local Government Committee for permission to borrow the sum of $1,211,657 in 2019, repayable over a period of four years, for the purpose of financing a portion of the 2018 paving project; and that the amount of the said debt shall be repayable in four installments of $341,304.83 in the years 2020 to 2023 inclusive, with interest at a rate of not greater than prime plus one per cent per annum, payable at least annually.

Council agreed to support, in principle, the purchase of a new fire pumper truck by the Canora and District Fire Protection Board in 2020.

Council authorized Kevin Malanchuk, labourer to attend the fireman boiler operator training to be held January 6 to 10, 2020, at Parkland College in Yorkton.

Council authorized Robert Taylor, labourer, to attend Class 1 water treatment and distribution training to be held November 25 to 29 at Parkland College in Yorkton.

Council amended the zoning bylaw to limit the maximum size of tarp structures in a residential district to 240 square feet. The bylaw was read three times and adopted.

A bylaw to enter into an agreement regarding the transfer of federal gas tax revenues was introduced, read three times and adopted.

Four bylaws to enter into four employment contracts were introduced, read three times and adopted.
