Town Council discusses plan for landfill and hires swimming pool staff for the coming summer

An action plan for the landfill and the hiring of swimming pool staff were among the items of concern to town council at its regular meeting on March 5.

Nicholas Huyter of Tetra Tech Canada Inc. met with council to discuss the environmental site assessment and corrective action plan for the landfill.

Council agreed to hire the following swimming pool staff for 2019: Kelly Bazuik (manager); Mackenzie Gulka (assistant manager); Abbey Sakal, Janayah Merriam, and Jill Gulka (full time); Emma Mykytyshyn, Ashley Stusek, Garret Bazuik and Brett Popoff (part time); Mina Mykytyshyn, Carter Matychuk, Emily Owchar, Drea Beblow, Bella Mykytyshyn, Lexie Biletski, Breanne Woloshyn and Zoe Thomas (casual.)

Council extended Craig Parmley’s landfill operator contract for one year.              

Council agreed to establish a veteran’s services grant fund of up to $750 per year, subject to an annual application process and disbursed at the discretion of council.

Council agreed to purchase a 2019 membership in the Federation of Canadian Municipalities at a cost of $487.

Council authorized application to the Provincial Traffic Safety Fund Grant for the purchase of two electronic speed signs at an approximate cost of $9,000.

Council adjusted the rent in the lease agreement with Charanjit Shokar to $250 per month.

A bylaw to repeal previous bylaws was introduced, read three times and adopted.

A bylaw to permanently close a back lane adjacent to Pacific Street was introduced, read three times and adopted.
