Canora archers excel at NASP provincials

The Canora National Archery in the Schools Program sent 77 archers to compete in provincials in Moose Jaw on March 30.

The Canora National Archery in the Schools Program sent 77 archers to compete in provincials in Moose Jaw on March 30.  The archers did an excellent job representing their community, schools and themselves, and came home with numerous medals, said Rod Steciuk, coach.

The Grades 4 and 5 elementary team won the provincial gold medal in the elementary category. The Grades 6 to 8 middle school team won the provincial bronze medal and the Grades 9 to 12 high school team won the provincial silver medal.

Seven Canora archers won individual provincial medals. Maxwell Mydonick shot a 282 and won a provincial gold medal in the high school boys division, just ahead of Jacob Danyluk, who took silver with a score of 279.

Felicity Mydonick shot a 284 and won a bronze in the high school girls division.

Cooper Kraynick shot a 260 and won silver in the elementary boys division, while Jordan Makowsky was close behind with a 255, good enough for bronze.

In the elementary girls division, Meekah Unick won a bronze medal with a score of 234. In middle school girls, Zoe Thomas shot a 274 and won silver.

Jacob Lowes was the top Grade 4 shooter of the tournament with a 253 score, which placed him fourth in the elementary boys division.

Among the other Canora archers who placed in the top 10 in their respective divisions were: Joshua Prychak shot a 245 in elementary boys to finish eighth, Addison Burym shot 226 and placed sixth in elementary girls, Kaelyn Shukin shot 216 for ninth in elementary girls, Taye Shukin shot 268 and placed eighth in middle school boys, Methyl Trask shot 266 and finished eighth in middle school girls and Brendon Landstad shot a 273 which placed him ninth in the high school boys division.

Steciuk said the Canora Junior Elementary School and the Canora Composite School continue to benefit from NASP with the much appreciated support of the Canora Wildlife Federation and the River Ridge Wildlife Federation.
