The Canora Ladies Golf Club held its annual tournament on August 11 with a total of 29 golfers participating in spite of the extreme heat.

For the first time, a dual format was offered, said club representative Maxine Stinka. Golfers could choose stroke or two-person scramble play, followed by a supper. Golfers taking part in the tournament were from Canora, Canora Beach, Burgis Beach, Crystal Lake, Ebenezer. Kamsack and Yorkton.

In stroke play, the championship flight was won by Phyllis Paul, with Laureen Achtemichuk in second place and Bernice Makowsky in third. In the second flight, Maxine Stinka finished first, Holly Masters came in second and Kim Grywacheski was third. First in the third flight was Dot Bordass, Barb King finished second and Gail Ostafie captured third place. The most honest golfer was Sharon Ciesielski.

In scramble play, the championship flight was won by the team of Norma Hudye and Debbie O’Dell. Amanda Popoff and Deb Marcischuk finished second, followed by Gloria Signarowski and Sonja Sheasby in third place. First place in the second flight went to the team of Juanita Brown and Susan Wrubell. The Melissa Seatan/Sherri Sparvier/Kristan Elliot unit finished second, while Linda Mcfadyen and Marge Montain came in third.  The most honest team was Eleanor Murray and Kathy Reese.

There were novelty prizes, as well as a raffle and a 50/50 draw.

“Most seemed to agree that the dual format was a great new idea, as golfers could choose their preference,” said Stinka.

Arnold Makowsky did the tournament scoring and his wife Donna snapped the pictures.

The golfers recognized the hole sponsors as well as businesses and individuals for their contributions to the continuing success of the tournament, she said.

Proceeds from the tournaments over the last several years have gone toward the purchase of tables and chairs to furnish the deck at the golf course.

“We appreciated the condition of the course, the wonderful meal provided, the members of the organizing committee and the golfers who all helped to create another successful tournament,” said Stinka.
