For the second year in a row, the A event final of the Canora Men’s Bonspiel was decided in an extra end. This year’s event was held from March 6 to 10.

A timely draw to the button in the eighth end by Terry Wilson and another in the extra end proved to be the difference in a tense, 6 to 5 win for the Canora foursome, skipped by Wilson, over the Ken Newell rink of Norquay.

After a steal of one in the seventh, Newell took a 5 to 3 lead and it looked like hope might be fading for the local side coming home. But Wilson drew in behind a guard with his first rock of the eighth, and then Newell just missed a raise takeout attempt which would have wrapped up the win. Instead Wilson, with last rock, drew for a score of two to force the extra end.

This time Newell had the hammer, but Wilson drew behind a series of staggered guards to the edge of the button. Newell attempted to come around the guards and tap out the Wilson counter, but failed to move the Wilson rock far enough, sealing the win for the Canora rink.

Curling with Wilson were: Curtis Baillie (third), Aaron Herriges (second) and Nolan Kondratoff (lead.)

In the B event final, the Preeceville rink skipped by Sheldon Luciw defeated the Zeno Gulka foursome of Canora. The Luciw team included: Lou Roste (third), James Bodnar (second) and Phil Murrin (lead.)

The C event final was a contest between Canora rinks skipped by John Zbitniff and Bill Foreman, with the Zbitniff rink coming out on top. Other members of the Zbitniff side were: Kevin Fediuk (third), Jim Vewchar (second) and Jordy Zbitniff (lead.)

Other teams competing in the bonspiel were: Bob Kolodziejski, Terry Dennis, Jim Trofimenkoff, Ron Hoehn, Mark McTavish, Joey Palagian, and Don Probe of Canora; Len Bazarski and Jake Teslia of Buchanan, and Ralph Ager of Preeceville.
