Rick Kinaschuk and his teammates, sponsored by W.F. Schneider and Son of Benito, were unbeatable in Kamsack January 5, easily winning the Duck Mountain Super League trophy and top prize money of $350.

Curling with Byron Zbirun, third; Jeff Osatchuk, second, and Scott Schneider, lead, Kinaschuk first defeated Don Bowes of Madge Lake in a semi-final game that lasted seven ends.

In the other A-side semi-final, Fred Perepiolkin of Kamsack and Bob Kolodziejski of Canora had a lengthy battle. Kolodziejski, sponsored by Pioneer Hi-Bred Seeds, was two down coming home and almost tied the game with his last stone.

This set the stage for the championship contest between Kinaschuk and Perepiolkin, sponsored by Nykolaishen Farms. The Benito team stayed hot, piling up points and forcing Perepiolkin to concede after seven ends.

The win gave Kinaschuk his fifth victory in the 31-year history of Duck Mountain Super League competition.

In the B-side semi-final action, Ken Newell, sponsored by Challoner Farm of Norquay, who was winless in regular season play, clobbered Richard Jordens. Brad Knutson, also from Norquay and sponsored by Str8up Livestock, had his hands full with Chris Leis of Kamsack, but won in eight ends.

Leaving both Kamsack teams on the sidelines, the Norquay curlers went back on the ice to decide the B-side final. Brad Knutson, curling with Justin Holodniuk, third; Vince Northrup, second, and Kelly Butterfield, lead, defeated Newell in six ends.

Tom Jordens of Madge Lake, chief executive officer of the Duck Mountain Super League, thanked all eight curling teams and their sponsors for participating in the 2017-2018 season.
